In the modern day with such easy access to cameras and editing software, how accessible is the art of filmmaking? Can anyone hop into it, or is the monetary wall still too high for most people?
Taking the style from some of my favorite video essayists, "Modernizing the Man of Steel," is a short essay I wrote in defense of (and also admitting the faults of) one of my favorite super hero films of all time.
"Dancing Letters" is a documentary series I worked on my freshman year with Dr. Adam Kent, a music professor at my alma mater. Dr. Kent and I worked tirelessly to produce this short series on composer Robert Schumann, a 19th-century composer with an extensive and heartwrenching story.
Throughout this process I had the opportunity to take on a leadership role as director and lead cinematographer, as well as taking part in most of the editing afterwards. In the end, I found myself to be a far better editor, director, and overall leader.
A short vlog I made in 2019/2020 talking about and reflecting on my year. This form of video blogging/journaling helped me a lot on reflecting on my perosnal growth, and gave me the chance to hone my skills as an editor.
The second of my two New Year's vlogs, this one was right after the pandemic, highlighting the most important lesson I've ever learned: Nobody cares. So, do your thing, and enjoy your life while you can.
